Last week one of my bestest’s toured my new home and summed up my feelings perfectly:
“I am sooo excited for you. And I am sooo terrified for you!!!!”
Yep – she captured my thoughts perfectly. It is very exciting and very terrifying – all at the same time.
We have been married 7 days, or one week, or 10,080 minutes depending on how you want to look at it. And the majority of those moments have been spent on our beloved boat. I don’t have the mental capacity at the moment to write a comprehensive post, as we leave in a bit for Jamaica, so instead you will get a list:
1. #boatlife is a constant set of trade-offs: a beautiful sunset followed by a community shower, a great day on the water followed by engine trouble, hauling laundry to the laundromat followed by sunset drinks. Depending on the moment life can either be idyllic or horrendous. Sometimes at the same time…
2. Nothing is easy on #boatlife. But it will be easier if you just do it right the first time. I could go for hours on this one – but the bottom line is there is no room for laziness on a 42 foot sailboat. Just do it right, now. You will thank yourself later.
3. You have a choice. Happy, sad, mad, frustrated, hot, cold, grumpy, tired, excited. In every situation you may not have a choice in what is happening – but you do have a choice how to react. Bo already has this mastered and consistently chooses not to be frustrated. Allison is still learning. She may be learning a really long time….
4. Play days and work days go hand in hand. We have a great rhythm in terms of how to forget about the never-ending list of boat projects and just go play. We are equally adept at setting goals and getting projects done. So far it is working and we are simultaneously tan and working through the list.
5. Sharing #boatlife with our people is the best part. As part of last week’s wedding festivities we were able to share our weird, amazing life with some of our most favorite people. We did boat tours, sunset cruises, daytime sails and more. Sipping bevs with your besties on the bow of the boat at sunset might be the best thing ever…you are all invited anytime.
It’s so true! Exciting and terrifying and awesome all rolled into one and I wouldn’t expect anything less from you! Loved every minute of celebrating with you!
😉 Love it!! Love it!! Love it!! 😉
You guys are just the cutest!! Alli, I am sure your days/months/years on the WR have helped lay the foundation for so much of your already-learned wisdom for the ups and downs of #boatlife! And everything you guys are tackling, learning and enjoying will serve you well in your marriage for years to come!! Stay safe and have FUN!! Thanks for letting us all tag along vicariously in your adventures. 🙂 Love from the Hastings.
