Abaco-Exuma

After thoroughly exploring the Abaco region of the Bahamas, it’s time for us to jump further south. We’ve made it Little Harbor, which is the southermost part of the Sea of Abaco. To go further south from Little Harbor, we have to head out into the Atlantic for at least a 50 mile run to Eleuthera.

Our ultimate goal for the next 30 days is to get to Georgetown in the Exuma region of the Bahamas.

There are several things we’d love to see in Eleuthera, but it’s not realistic to think we can see everything throughout our entire voyage. So, based on the weather window shaping up for this weekend, we may end up passing up Eleuthera altogether and sailing straight to the Exumas.

We’ll leave at noon today and see what happens when we get out into the Atlantic. If the weather is nice and the wind is a good direction, we’ll likely continue east of Eleuthera for a 24-30 hour run around Eleuthera straight to Warderick Wells or Staniel Cay in Exuma.

If we get offshore and we decide otherwise, it’s about a 10 hour jaunt to Spanish Wells, where we’d then spend the next week or so doing day hops down the west coast of Eleuthera before finally making the last 30 mile jump to Exuma.

We really haven’t been out in open water since we crossed the Gulf Stream from Florida to the Bahamas back in December, so yesterday was spent stowing everything away on the boat. Over the course of the last month, things have migrated out of their storage spots to the counters and desks down below…it was time to put them away again so they don’t go flying around the cabin if we encounter any rough seas!

Internet has been extremely hit or miss and I’m afraid it’s going to get worse, so follow our tracker here if you’d like and we’ll check back in as soon as we can!
