We pulled out of Atwood Harbour early one morning and sailed most of the way to Clarencetown, Long Island. We have been on Long Island before but had never explored the southern end of the island, so this was our time time in Clarencetown. It had been at least a week since we had seen civilization, so we were all anxious to stretch our sea legs and explore a bit.

Juuuussst as we were pulling in to town we heard the line zing.

After a lot of work on Bo’s part, and squealing on my part, he landed this nice Mahi and we had tacos for days!
We promptly ate fish tacos first and then plotted our next morning’s adventures with Ruby Rose. We all agreed to see the island a bit and hatched a plan to rent a car and visit Dean’s Blue Hole, the Cape Santa Maria resort (!!!!) and a grocery store.
The next morning we woke up to crystal clear water (that is the bottom you see there) and decided to hop in for a swim first. Bo flew the drone and captured the beauty of the anchorage and us in the water.

I had just been stung by a dang sea biscuit, so I wasn’t all that anxious to hold another one but he convinced me.

It was our anniversary so we swam holding hands. Cute.

Selah and Ruby Rose in gin clear water.
Once we got moving we hit Dean’s Blue Hole for our first stop. A blue hole is pretty much a black hole in the ocean. It is like a crater that opens up in the sea floor and goes and goes and goes…Dean’s is reported to be 600 feet deep and hosts a number of free diving competitions. We happened to be there on the rest day of the competition, so we didn’t see much action – but truly amazing to see!
We hopped back in the car and drove for what seemed like ever to the tippy top of the northern edge of the island to my favorite spot on earth, Cape Santa Maria. We have fond memories of blowing the budget there last year and decided not to do that this year. 🙂
Yes – it is even better in person than the pictures. Most of the time the camera just does not do the Bahamas justice, although we sure do try! We had lunch at the resort, found a grocery store on the way home and called it a day!
Bo and I shared a cheese plate on the water during this sunset and ate ice cream out of the tub for anniversary dinner. Perfection.
Happy anniversary! Feels like it was just yesterday that we heard about your first year anniversary … crazy how time flies when you are having fun, isn’t it?
